Counseling

Overview:
The Center for Mission Studies Counseling internship is an opportunity for male or female graduate students to acquire extensive direct counseling experience while rendering meaningful service in a challenging professional setting. Clientele are men or women in the Denver Rescue Mission’s long-term residential rehabilitation programs, many of whom suffer with addiction and relationship issues. (Assignments are available in Denver—2 locations—and in the Ft. Collins area.) Participants will serve a minimum 2-semester commitment (approximately 8 months), consisting of practical experience (1:1 and groups) augmented with professional, educational, and personal development.

Program Description:
The Counseling intern can expect to gain 1:1 counseling experience at one of our four facilities, and the opportunity to co-facilitate weekly process groups. The intern will grow in understanding one’s own life and walk with God in relationship to counseling others. Under the supervision of a State of Colorado Licensed Psychological Counselor, the intern will acquire practical familiarity with DSM-IV; will be trained in and practice crisis management and confidentiality; and will address pertinent mental health issues such as depression, mental illness, psychotropic medications and addictions in a relaxed and personal professional environment. Typically, a commitment of approximately 8 hours per week is necessary for the duration of the internship. Intern must provide evidence of counseling insurance.
