Ever Wanted to be a Missionary?
Now
you can join a cross culture missionary team
without ever leaving home!! The Family Refugee
Services program has an incredible opportunity to
reach out to some of the neediest and friendliest
people of the world!! Family Refugee Services (FRS)
is experiencing a large influx of refugees from Central
Asia, Africa and soon Burma. FRS is looking for
mentor teams to work with these families.
A mentor team for Family Refugee Services
builds a
relationship with the refugee family, provides
guidance toward self-sufficiency and provides a
compassionate witness of Jesus. A refugee mentor
team
consists of 6-10 mentors who are willing to give a
few hours a month for up to 6 months. Mentor
teams provide practical support by helping the
refugee family obtain food, clothing, furniture and
household items, etc. The mentor team
provides
emotional support by helping the family adjust to
their new culture and surroundings. Most
importantly, the mentor team provides social
support
by having fun with the family and building new
relationships!
If you are interested in becoming a part of a refugee
mentor
team,

Changing Lives: The Capital Campaign
for the Denver Rescue Mission
As the oldest full-service Christian charity in the
Rocky Mountain Region, the Denver Rescue Mission is
a thriving non-denominational organization that
serves people of every race, color, creed, gender,
and national origin. From its flagship facility -
the "Jesus Saves" building on Lawrence Street - to
its bustling Ministry Outreach Center, Champa House
transitional home for mothers and children, and rural
Harvest Farm near Fort Collins, the Mission's shelter,
rehabilitation, and education programs help thousands
of men, women, and families rebuild their lives.
The increasing request for the Mission's unique
services and the opportunity to provide an innovative
solution to Denver's homeless problem have led the
Board of Directors to undertake the first capital
campaign in the institution's history. The campaign is
designed to add emergency shelter space, provide
transitional housing for individuals and families, and
serve more people in its New Life rehabilitation
program.
In general, the Changing Lives Capital Campaign will:
- Provide transitional housing for up to 69 homeless
families.
- Expand the number of New Life program
participants in Denver from 80 to 120.
- Provide transitional housing for up to 38
graduates of the New Life program.
- Provide 80 more emergency beds at its Lawrence
Street shelter.
- Provide housing for interns who assist with the
Mission's outreach programs.
Since 1892, Denver's poor, homeless, and outcast
have turned to the people of the Denver Rescue
Mission for the physical necessities of food and
shelter, and for an eternal message of hope - the
precious opportunity for physical, emotional, and
spiritual transformation. Sustained by a
compassionate group of donors and volunteers, the
people of the Denver Rescue Mission work tirelessly
to meet immediate human needs while pursing the
ultimate goal of restoring the poor and homeless to
self-sufficiency.
Miracles happen here. Men and women who were
once overwhelmed by their struggles are touched by
the Mission's Gospel message and the caring
assistance of its staff and volunteers. Here, they
find the power to break free of the addictions, habits,
and lack of education that kept them trapped in
cycles of poverty and homelessness. Here, they find
hope.
Lives redeemed. Families rescued. Hope restored.
Miracles.
If you would like more information on how you can be
a part of restoring hope through the capital
campaign, please call 303.313.2411 or visit our

Volunteer Spotlight
At the Denver Rescue Mission we have over 1000
volunteers who serve meals in our two soup kitchens
each month. Ability Specialists is an organization
that volunteers with us each month preparing and
serving lunch at The Crossing.
Ability Specialists seeks to create a balanced and
productive life for adults with developmental
disabilities. Eric Bork, our head chef is "thankful and
honored" to work with this group. He
commented: "They always come in with a wonderful
attitude and leave with that same wonderful
attitude."
This group is a great example of our many volunteers
who truly have hearts for service.
What! Back to School Already???
School may just be ending, but we only have 3 short
months to help less fortunate children get ready for
next fall, and we need you!! Partner with the Denver
Rescue Mission to help get these kids ready for
school!!
Education is the great poverty equalizer.
Unfortunately, many students go to school
ill-equipped and their education and self-esteem
suffer.
By assisting these children with school supplies, we
are investing in their future. We are in need of the
following items to fill backpacks:
- 12-rulers
- boxed crayons
- spiral notebooks
- compasses
- pink erasers
- glue or glue sticks
- blue or black pens
- filler paper
- packaged color pencils
- packaged #2 pencils
- protractors
- blunt tip scissors
- yellow highlighters
- pencil bags
These items can be dropped off at the Ministry
Outreach Center located at 3501 E. 46th Ave. Help a
child get a new lease on their school year!!
